Fatalities occur in Wisconsin despite road improvements

Despite continuous road improvements, which according to Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) makes roads safer, vehicular-related deaths occurred often in the month of May, an article of TMJ 4 reported on June 3.

WisDOT statistics revealed that in May alone there were 50 road fatalities in the state despite the presence of road structures and traffic signs that help mitigate accidents. WisDOT’s David Pabst, however, noted that in terms of road fatalities, last May’s record was considered one of the safest after the Second World War. Pabst neither denied nor confirmed that the recent increase in the speed limit on major highways became a factor in road deaths. However, he suggested that vehicles on the left side of the lane are more likely to become involved in an accident if they travel slowly. Drivers in the “fast lane” expect other drivers to travel faster when in the same lane, Pabst explained. Since January until the end of May, Wisconsin authorities recorded 217 road fatalities.

Many families become both emotionally and financially burdened when a loved one is hurt in an accident.
