GM agree to settle $35M fine for recall delay

General Motors (GM) stated that they will settle the $35 million fine imposed on them by the U.S. government for the untimely recall of millions of vehicle with a defective ignition switch, CBS News reported on May 16.

Aside from settling the penalty, GM also agreed to undergo additional monitoring, according to the U.S. Transportation Department. Secretary Anthony Foxx stated that the penalty imposed on GM should also serve as a warning to other car makers not to endanger millions of lives due to negligence. GM CEO Mary Barro said they have learned their lesson and will strive to become the leader in terms of vehicle safety.
