MADD expresses criticism of current Wisconsin OWI law

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), a group that fights against drunk driving, recently gave Wisconsin’s Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) law a poor rating.

MADD gave Wisconsin State’s current drunk driving law a two-star rating, stressing that it is the only state in America that does not consider an OWI first offense a crime. MADD also decided to gave Wisconsin a poor grade due to state lawmakers’ failed attempts to upgrade the penalties for drunk driving offenders.

MADD is pressing the state to make an OWI first offense a felony and drivers convicted of OWI having a mandatory ignition interlock device in their vehicles.

Aside from Wisconsin, MADD also gave a two-star rating to Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa.

Being a victim of car accidents caused by intoxicated drivers on the road is often devastating.
