Rate of teenage drinking and driving drops by half over two decades

A recent study released by federal health officials shows that the rate of teenage drinking and driving has decreased by about 54% since 1991.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 22.3% of teenagers admitted to drinking and driving in 1991, which decreased to 10.3% in 2011.

The CDC has stated that this decrease in high school-aged drinking and driving may be the result of stricter night driving restrictions and tougher drunk driving laws. They also stated that even though this number is moving in the right direction, there is a long way to go as nearly 800 teenage deaths from drinking and driving occur each year.
