16-year-old charged with texting while driving

Last week, a 16-year-old girl was issued a traffic citation after nearly hitting a pedestrian while she was texting and driving in Dodge County.

The pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk when the driver’s car jumped the curb. The vehicle left a 30 foot tire mark on the ground in front of Highway 60.

Since last December, Wisconsin became the 25th state to outlaw composing or sending text messages or emails while driving. Tickets range from $20-$400 for the first offense and $200-$800 for the second offense. Ones driving record can also be affected by up to four points.
