Fatal car and pedestrian accident on U.S. 41 under investigation

Officials are continuing to investigate a car and pedestrian accident that killed one person. The driver of the vehicle struck the 70-year-old man as he worked to cleanup the roadway with the Adopt-A-Highway volunteer crew.

The 31-year-old driver told authorities that she slammed on her brakes after a small, black car got into her path on the highway. Her and her passenger both recall the vehicle that cut them off, but they did not know any other details.

After the woman slammed on her brakes she swerved and hit the man on the side of the road. Accident reconstruction specialists are currently investigating how the accident happened. The woman was charged operating a car without a license causing death and failure to control a vehicle.
