Posted on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 at 8:28 pm

Current bills in the Wisconsin Assembly are attempting to toughen the laws on the drunk driving in the state in order to cut back on the number of impaired drivers that get behind the wheels.

A bill that is currently in the assembly would change the current law that states that drunk driving is not a felony until the fourth conviction, in order to make a felony on the third conviction.

The bill was first suggested in May 2011, but it only now receiving a hearing. Those who are behind the tougher laws include families that have been affected by drunk driver. Wisconsin sees stricter drunk driving laws

Posted on Monday, July 12th, 2010 at 9:59 am

Beginning July 1, the drunk driving laws in Wisconsin became tougher in an effort to put an end to injuries and deaths in alcohol-related accidents.

The Governor of Wisconsin released a statement showing his enthusiasm toward the new rules. He announced that he made it clear when elected that he wanted to make the laws against drunk drivers. Although he feels like there is still much to do, he thinks this law is a foot in the right direction.

The new law has harsher treatment on drunk drivers, to stop repeat offenders. Also, the fourth offense OWI will be a felony if it occurs within five years of another charge. Ignition interlocks will be installed for repeat offenders and it will be a misdemeanor if their is a child under 16 in the car during a first OWI.
